jeff clearly sees the distinction between consensual and non-con. since he distinguishes it in interviews
yet said derek didn’t care about lydia’s lack of agency with peter in a q&a. and then continually uses non-con in his plot devices without explicitly saying it was wrong or even addressing why it’s wrong
it’s just left there dangling in the wind while more characters become victims of abuse yet never deal with it or are seen to have reached a resolution from the ordeal
it reminds me how jeff didn’t want to make kali/jennifer canon yet teased with the possibility before killing them. like srsly urgh. at least that pairing made some sense if it was canon
there is so much non-con happening that the so-called consensual relationships are littered with the same tone
especially where jackson was abusive towards lydia yet that was framed as an amazing love story that defeated the kanima’s curse
aiden pursuing lydia for deucalion who told him to and same goes with ethan to danny. the fact that they didn’t consensually being either is also disturbing
none of this is ever addressed nor framed in comparison with a positive relationship
Dear Jeff, it was gross when you pulled this stuff on Criminal Minds but at least that show was about psychopathic killers. It was framed as “not okay conduct, this is what bad people do”. You can’t pull the same type of storyline on a show like this without adding in the framework and consequences of these actions. QUIT NORMALIZING ABUSE. Let’s not forget that this is a show mostly geared towards teenagers. While a lot of us on tumblr (including many teens) may be looking at these actions in the show and judging them for their many layers of grossness, many teens won’t.
It’s bad story writing, it’s lazy, and it’s unhealthy for maintaining a wellrounded show and for the people watching it. Congrats, you are officially creeping into Stephanie Meyer territory here. Be proud. Be very, very proud.
I’m pretty sure he’s beyond Stephanie Meyer territory. Or at least firmly in that territory. He doesn’t just normalize abuse, he romanticizes it. We don’t ever see ANYONE talk about the unhealthy relationship between Jackson and Lydia. We just see her missing him when he’s gone. That’s not even close to addressing an issue. And Peter was beyond just creepy to her, he used/abused her. And that’s hardly discussed. And if it is, it’s a brief moment before you’re supposed to be charmed by him. He isn’t charming. Twist him however you want for fic or whatever, but in canon? There are no redeeming qualities in that man.
So we should see Lydia dealing with these two HUGELY AWFUL MEN IN HER LIFE. But we never see it. Because one is romanticized and the other is downplayed until his crimes are forgotten.
I could go on and on, but I just… no. I’m done. I’m so sick of seeing abuse either ignored or romanticized in media.
it very much romanticized with jackson
it’s not even addressed by anyone as being wrong. lydia doesn’t even say anything. despite how very much she had no problem in season one for calling him out. his abuse isn’t even addressed since the plot romanticize it and then at the end lydia saves him because she above all else loved him and he loved her. despite abusing her all season
and framed with peter’s abuse which is just forgotten and for comedic effect at the resolution. like it was normalized. like yeah, that happened. moving on. oh lol
this show is geared to teens and it does two things consistently:
- romanticizes abuse
- normalizes abuse
at least in crime shows, the police come. in teen wolf, nothing happens except people dying which either causes the victim to blame themselves or recollect on fonder memories of their abuser
If you legitimately give a shit about homosexual romance, you’ll watch the show on Monday.
Because it’s going to actually have a scene about homosexual romance, which the show has not done thus far. Boycotting because “it’s not as progressive as we want!!! BAWWW STEREK WOULD BE SO MUCH MORE PROGRESSIVE” is the opposite of being supportive of queer representation in media.
Not watching on Monday in an attempt to blackmail MTV into making Sterek a reality is not going to make Sterek a reality. All they’ll see is that:
- They took a risk with a gay sex scene in this episode
- Now they have lowered numbers
Result: studio is less likely to take risks in future, and therefore IRONICALLY less likely to make Sterek a reality. Is the Dethan scene not a main character? Yep. Is that not as progressive as they could be? Yep.
Is it still a step in the right direction for queer representation? YES.
So I challenge you—if you GENUINELY give a shit about queer representation as you claim, watch the show on Monday. Put aside your problems with Dennifer and do it.
If you do continue to boycott and push this movement, you’re making sure that MTV and the entire fandom knows that you legitimately do not give a shit about queer representation unless it’s representation that you want and have chosen.
And that’s not progressive. That’s queer fetishization.
That’s saying “queer representation should only exist if it’s queer representation I like.”
will someone please tell this man to stop doing thiS
If only he had seven dwarfs. Oh wait…
And let’s not forgot his prince..
i love everyone in this fairytale
And of course our story isn’t complete without an evil queen who pretends to love Snow White for a time.
Or who will show up later in our story as an ugly old crone.
Then there’s the Huntsman with a good heart
headcanon: stiles went to a different school before his mom died and was a pretty cool kid and was buddies with heather and what not then after his mom died people started making fun of him and looking and talking to him differently so papa stilinski uprooted them both and moved across town and enrolled him in a different school and on the first day some jerkoff pushes stiles around and starts making fun of him for not having a mom and scott intervenes and defends stiles’ honor later explains to stiles, “it’s cool i don’t have a dad” and then they mutually agree over grilled cheese sandwiches that they can share parents
they’ve been inseparable since
I need a moment to cry about this
